Hollaback Ottawa: We are a group of feminist activists who live, work and play in Ottawa. We do not believe that 'cat calling' is a rite of passage that women/womyn and queer folks must endure. We believe that it is a form of harassment that serves to perpetuate the idea that women's/womyn's bodies are for public consumption. So we fight back. We post stories and images of street harassment in the hopes of shaming those who commit it. This is us, fighting back. *We recognize that taking photos or verbally responding to street harassment is often a matter of safety and we don't think there is any 1 right way to respond. We respect those who choose not to engage with their harassers and those who don't report incidents. Our politics are trans-inclusive and we recognize that the categories of women/womyn are problematic.
